Pawel Milczarek B.A., LL.B.
Pawel is a skilled trial and appellate lawyer focusing his criminal practice in the areas of drug offences, criminal driving offences, and serious violent offences, including murder. Pawel also often represents firm clients in law suits against police and jail authorities and defends companies and individuals charged with serious regulatory infractions under provincial legislation.
Pawel has developed a reputation as an aggressive advocate not shying away from defending his clients both in the media and in the courtroom. Pawel applies our firm's practice of extensive written submissions on legal issues before the courts. This leads to both effective outcomes for our clients as well as opening avenues of appeal. While wins are a common occurrence, an adverse ruling is rarely the end of the road with Pawel. Due to his experience with written and appellate advocacy, he gives his client's a second chance by setting up effective legal avenues for appeal.
Raised in Wawa, Ontario, but born in Poland, Pawel Milczarek (pronounced "Pavel Mil-chair-ik") is fluent in both English and Polish. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 7. Pawel completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, majoring in both Political Science and Criminology. In 2006, Pawel obtained his Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Jack Pinkofsky Prize in Criminal Law.
Throughout his studies at Osgoode, Pawel participated in the Community and Legal Aid Services Programme (CLASP), providing free representation to low-income individuals charged with criminal offences. In his final year of law school, Pawel became a division leader in the Criminal and Workers' Divisions.
In 2006, Pawel began his articles of clerkship with one of Toronto's largest criminal defence firms, Hicks Block Adams LLP. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2007 and went on to practice criminal law at the well-respected firm of Bernstein, Newman & Associates until his departure from Toronto in 2009. The firm's practice was focused on the defence of individuals charged with serious violent offences, organized crime, and drug prosecutions.
Pawel is regarded as a skilled lawyer whose superior knowledge of the law and the technicalities of criminal litigation allow him to provide exceptional representation for all of his clients.
Pawel served two terms as Vice-President of Calgary's Criminal Defence Lawyers' Association (from 2013 to 2015).
